**IMPORTANT**
If your Windows VPS is shutting down automatically, it is because you have not entered a valid licensing key. Please be sure you enter a valid licensing key or request a trial key through Windows Activation to ensure your machine does not shutdown unexpectedly.
Part A:
- Login to your VPS as Administrator via VNC
- Open a file manager window and type Network Connection in the address bar
- Right click the adapter and select Properties. If you do not see an adapter present, see Part B below.
- Highlight Internet Protocol 4 (TCP/IPv4) from the menu
- Select Use the following IP address: by clicking the round circle
- In the IP Address: filed, type in the IP address you have been assigned, please see your welcome email.
- In the Subnet Mask: field, please enter 255.255.255.0
- In the Default Gateway: field, type in your IP address but for the last number after the last dot (.) enter 1
- Enter in the Preferred DNS Server: field 8.8.8.8
- Enter in the Alternative DNS Server: field 8.8.4.4
- Press Ok to save the settings
Part B:
If you have gone to the Network Connections panel and found no adapter, chances are you either need to install the virto driver set by mounting the iso through your VPS control panel or by changing the Network Adapter in your VPS control panel instead. Since we are trying to keep it simple, we will simply show you how to change the network adapter type instead. Installing the virto driver will be the subject of another knowledgebase article in the future.
