There is no automatic mechanism for migrating VMs between data centers. This is due to different IP address announcements being used at each data center. Placing an order to change locations will have no effect and this order will be deleted automatically by the system after some time with no further action taking place.
In order to migrate a VPS between locations, you have two options. Follow the steps below to complete:
Manual Migration
- Order the VPS required at requested data center.
- Reinstall necessary software packages.
- Migrate necessary data.
- Confirm everything is working as intended.
- Cancel prior VPS.
Assisted Migration
- Open a billing request indicating you wish to have your VPS transferred to a new location, indicating the service you wish to transfer and the new location. A $50 one-time migration fee applies.
- Your system will be migrated in its entirety across out internal network to the new data center.
- The VPS provisioning system will assign you new IP addresses, changing your network services in the process (note: in limited circumstances, you may need to perform this step manually via VNC), your old ones will be returned to the available pool and will not be reserved.
- Update any service required to reflect the new IP address space in use (e.g. hostnames, DNS services, etc.)
